Where haberdashery and geekdom combine
This is a community to share your cross stitch works with other interested people. We're also here to help with any embroidery questions you have!

The moderators for this community are bekscilla (previously bekki_n), cathouse_blues and emohdee - please be aware that you can contact any of us by emailing bekki_n and cathouse_blues at livejournal dot com and siran underscore drauka at yahoo dot com

Although this community is dedicated to cross-stitch, please don't feel that you have to stick to cross stitch! Other types of embroidery or similar crafts are welcomed.

Please however, go to the LJ FAQ for all Livejournal questions.

There are only a few rules here: Cut Tag any pictures, don't advertise things and don't share copyrighted material.

All pictures must be cut tagged. Pictures of your work are welcomed and encouraged, however we do ask that you use lj cut tags (go to the FAQ and livejournal specific tags section for help).

Don't advertise things includes advertising your auctions. If you want to advertise a community, use LJ's official page at community_promo. If you'd like to organise a swap, please feel free and if you're giving stuff away, please only request payment for postage. Failure to follow these rules will result in your post being removed.

Don't share copyright material: Most, though not all, kits, charts and patterns have a statement reading something like "permission granted to copy/photocopy for personal use." "Personal use" means so you can write on it, mark it up, use highlighter, whatever – usually so you don't damage the original – but it does not mean you can give away or sell photocopies, scans, electronic files or other copies of the product for someone else's "personal use".

It's fine to post an image of the product (behind an lj-cut), or a link on where to find it, but please do not post that you will share a chart or pattern, nor links to "sharing sites". The moderators will remove such posts or comments, and those who post them will receive a warning the first time. Repeated offense will result in banning from cross_stitch.

NOTE: Please be kind to your fellow members who may be under eighteen or who may read the community at work and restrict your icons to a "G" rating. If you have any question about where your icon might fall, please feel free to contact a moderator.

If you have any questions about the community, feel free to email me, and put cross-stitch community as the subject.

If you'd like to see any of the tags used by the community, and what has been posted under them, click here

The lovely pw_pw has offered to make charts from any image that you have. See this post for more information

So... this wasn't the piece that I had been planning on working on next. But Bitty took it upon herself to rip open the kit and since it seemed easier to stitch it up than to find a new bag for it, here we go:

2nd-May-2017 09:24 am - Stitching streak...
dragon cross stitch
One of these days I'll post pictures of various WIPs again, however, today I wanted simply to look at other people's work :) and say that I've cross stitched for 304 days in a row. About 3 years ago I was feeling stitchy (feel free to substitute a different letter for "st" LOL) and I made a resolution to stitch every day. Sometimes it's for hours, sometimes it's for minutes, and I've missed some days, but my current streak is 304 days. WHEEEEE!

So... I'm a crazy cat lady, but, until recently, I had never stitched a cat. It always seemed a little too on the nose, so to speak, like the crazy cat lady within was trying just a little too hard to prove herself present.

But now that's changed.

Something about this chart called to me. It could be the green eyes. (It's probably the green eyes). Or maybe it is the fact that this beast looks so much like two of my own little green eyed monsters: Kikumaru and Bitty.

Either way, as soon as I saw it, I just had to have it and stitch it, and tonight, I finished.

Quit staring at that fabric and pet me!Collapse )

I was originally going to have this update be quite a bit more image-heavy because I was going to post the last six bookmarks from the 12 month bookmark kit all at once, but I lost October, November, December, June, and May. Or, to paraphrase my mother, I put them in a place where they would be safe and not get damaged and now I don't remember where that is. Probably somewhere weird.

But I still have a few picturesCollapse )

12th-Feb-2017 12:54 pm - #9 And His Rose-An Update
Christopher and I
The current project is taking rather longer than expected.

This is no small way of a massive balls up I made on the original canvas. D'oh I made the classic error of not measuring it first and had to redo the whole lot AGAIN with a lot of explictives (Malcolm Tucker eat your heart out!) thrown in for good measure.

Thankfully the new canvas measured correctly and I'm now on Page 12 out of 45. This is where Rose makes her appearance in cross stitch, already I've covered #9's top part of his face. His eyes follow you though when you're trying to concentrate.

Another year...to complete it!
24th-Dec-2016 05:15 pm - Long time, no post!
It's been.... ooo, 3 years since I last posted? And I've done some stitching since then!

pics are many, some are bigCollapse )

If anyone wants the changes I made to any of these (except the Crescent Moon Dragon and Wizard's View, since those are on full charts and I have no way of policing who's already got the book), message me and I'll get them to you. Also, for the HAEDs, I have made cheat shets for the symbol keys if anyone wants them. And the title panel for St Nick.

22nd-Jan-2017 09:40 am - Admin questions
harmony, xinef
1. There used to be a "home page" for this group, with posting instructions. I don't see that any more. Is there some way to post a "pinned" post that always shows at the top of the group feed if the home page isn't available in LJ any more?

2. Who is/are the moderator(s) of this group? I don't see any way to find that out nor to be able to send them messages. Contact me if you'd like me to help with admin, if it is possible to have multiple admins for a group.

3. Is this group set to open posts or Approved members only? I suggest changing to the latter to cut down on recent spam.

Spammers are being a pain recently. They leave posts with no titles and with comments turned off. Can the moderators please delete the post that was posted today and ban that poster.

12th-Jan-2017 10:17 am - Framed and a new piece
Happy New Year everyone! My apologies for being continually absent :P I don't turn my computer on all that often of late and I find LJ frustrating to use on my phone, at least for posts like this.

But here are a couple of things I thought you all might be interested in seeing.

First we have Peggy's Cove in its nice frame, I'm really pleased with how this one came together and my brother is really happy with it too! We were torn when we took it in to be framed whether to go with a simple black frame like all the rest of his pictures in his apartment have or something weathered which I thought would really suit the subject matter.

Peggy's Cove FramedCollapse )

Next up we have the new project that I'm working on for my best friend. You may recall that I mentioned awhile back that the original piece I did for her was unfortunately lost in the Fort McMurray fire. I knew I was definitely going to do another piece for her and this is what I've been working on.

Started November 4th 2016 I'm stitching it with one thread on 25ct fabric, which has to be my favorite fabric to work with! I can get excellent detail out of the patterns while still keeping them a manageable size.

dragon cross stitch

I've been working on this for 7 years. After my 2016 resolution to stitch on it at least once a week, I feel like I'm making progress again! (I don't use the iPhone LJ app often so I hope the cut tag works...) This photo is of my progress as of 1/1/17. Happy New Year! :-)

edited to fix the tag...and again to fix the pic...and because I'm a goof...

3rd-Jan-2017 01:23 pm - It's Done
Avengers- Steed & Emma
A favorite moment of mine in the movie "1776" is of John Adams' reaction when the resolution to declare independence is finally passed. It's only a few seconds long, but you can see what the struggle to accomplish this has meant to him as he simply says, "It's done. It's done." Now, I do not in any way compare my cross-stitch to the birth of a nation, but I thought of that scene yesterday when I put the last stitch in my Star Wars piece. It does still need framing (thank goodness for 75% off at Joanne's!) and then it will be shipped off to the young married couple, but the stitching is complete. For those who care about such things - start date: March 6, 2016, end date: January 2, 2017; approximate number of stitches: 46,000.
It felt very odd this morning not to be stitching before I went to work, and odd again not to be stitching at lunch. I'm taking a day or two off before I start back with the two pieces I put aside to concentrate solely on Star Wars. Meanwhile, here is my latest opus:

25th-Dec-2016 11:12 am - A treasure trove!
Merry Christmas, fellow stitchers, if you celebrate. Happy holidays, if you do not. :D

This wasn't actually a Christmas present as such, more a something handed over to me at a time which just happened to be Christmas Eve. (In Denmark, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve)

It's inherited goods, actually.

This belonged to my great-grandmotherCollapse )

Some of this stuff could easily be 50 years old. I'm rather looking forward to stitching my ancestor into my own work in the future. It feels very appropriate to me.

Finished! And with a whole week to spare! (I think that might be a new record for me as I'm usually stitching late into the night Christmas Eve).

I wanted something not so classic-christmasy this year and Just Cross Stitch came through 150% with these neat little green and blue samplers. *grins*
Made it for our Secret Santa at work. Am planning on doing a few more, because it was super quick and easy and I have friends with cats.

Yes, more cross stitch. But I really am going to focus on that last chapter of ... the fanfic who's name I've forgotten since it has been so long since I last worked on it.

Yeah. But anyway, frostywonder needed some items for her roller derby group's craft fair and, since I needed a reason to put off confirming the resurgence of Ichijouji Ken's dark side... voila!

cross stitch and candy...Collapse )

Some of the patterns are J. Washington Irving originals, some are hama bead patterns filched from pinterest, some are bits and pieces of larger patterns, and most are some combination of the above.

So yeah. Writing.

Or I could go look for something else to stitch.

16th-Nov-2016 08:03 pm - Mini quilt project
dragon cross stitch
Several years ago, I did a t-shirt quilt with a LOT of help and instruction and coaching from a good friend of mine who's been quilting a lot longer than I have. :) This year I picked up a mini quilt kit at a local store (by a local artist, too, which is cool) and I finally finished the hand stitching for the binding today. I'm planning to get a dowel and ribbon and find a blank space (HA ha ha ha) on our wall for the mini quilt. It's about 12"x12" square. (Yep. I went from a queen-sized quilt with huge blocks to a mini quilt with very tiny pieces of fabric. Can we say ambitious??? LOL!)

I was reminded I had posted the start of this project (mumble) years ago. Resurrected it from the UFO pile last year and finally finished it. Wanted to hold off on posting the finished thing until it was framed, but my favorite framing store has closed and I am taking forever to find a replacement. So for some sense of completion, have a quick snap of the rumpled but complete Map of Yorkshire.

So I went on a cruise about a month back. My first cruise ever. Seattle WA, Astoria OR, San Francisco CA and Victoria BC. And if that wasn't cool enough, this cruise was a cross stitch cruise. Yeah that's right. A bunch of cross stitch geeks doing excursions to cross stitch themed museums and stitchery shops and taking cross stitch classes on the "sea" days.

The class I took was for a white work sampler. And I finally finished it today:Collapse )

Of course it took me forever to get a chance to sit down and work on this piece because I first had to finish the one I had started before leaving for the cruise. You know... I have... rules.

But here is yesterday's finish:Collapse )

Yay! Now to start on my christmas ornaments. Or, you know... finish that poor fanfic I've left hanging with one chapter to go.

Whatever. *grins*

Halloween cat by tyger tiger
Happy Halloween!

Due to the fact that I'm working all on sky now, I made massive progress on my Star Wars project this month - 6000 stitches!  That's way beyond my previous best month of about 4000 stitches.  I'm excited to have completed the first line of words as well.  I can see the end - dimly way down the road, but in sight.

For comparison, here are photos from October 1st and 31st.

This is what I stitched on holiday (and finished off at home. This design is called Plumberry Sampler and is by the Sweet Heart Tree. The letters are stitched over one on 28 count linen. Previouly, the kits came with needles. This one didn't and I didn't pack my beading needles which made the thing rather frustrating. The corners were really hard to do and locating the holes were just plain difficult, but I really enjoyed it and didn't need my back-up project.
