rainbow cupcakes
Okay, so lately I have no incentive to stitch. I have those mini stocking from Bucilla to finish (many of them Lol) and no incentive. Those are my only Christmas gifts this year (poor college student) and I am soooooooooooooooooo behind.

Any tips/ideas/lamentations? Lol

Try to watch the BCC version of Pride and Prejudice without being tempted to stitch. Or any other period piece.

It's hard for me not to stitch watching something like that.

Oops, I meant BBC.

BCC was where I got my associate's degree.

Looking at all the WIP pics on this community always makes me yearn to stitch! Or do a search for tips on cross-stitching, maybe you'll see a technique that you'll want to try out!

I'm doing those stockings, and will be finishing up the three for my boyfriend's family (since I've already asked for their addresses), and am pushing the rest down on the to-do list, and will be finishing them for next year.

You could always make little coupons saying that your handmade gift is taking longer than expected, and give them away sometime in January. Most people recieving a handmade gift don't mind waiting a little longer, as it's the thought and effort and love put into it that matters to them, not the actual "this is a Christmas present" part of it (if that makes sense).

That's very true. I might end up doing that...

...

I really love them though, and would like to do more for next year, different people, etc.

Yeah, I think you're onto something - I feel like, ick, I cant work on anything else until those are done, and... ick.

I want to stitch, just not those, but those are my planned Christmas gifts... I have a billion other things in my to-do pile, but I feel like i cant till after Christmas. I have a wedding sampler i want done by April (end of) but I feel like I cant unless those damn stockings (lol) are done.

start a time chart: for X amount of hours you work on your stockings, you can work the same amount (or a little smaller amount, if you want the stockings done faster) of time on ONE of the other projects you actually want to do. Then repeat!

Stitch during class ^_^ You might want to give up if you don't have much done, though. It took me a whole semester to make those stockings for everyone. I did make more than one of each, though.

I would stitch on something else for a while, say an hour or two, and then go back to them and every time you get one finished spend an hour or two working on another piece, rinse repeat. =)

I use the Nike approach... JUST DO IT!

For me, it's the opposite! I just want to stitch, and I NEED to get these scarves knitted for Christmas!!! -.-;;;; I'm so bad!

Haha, I'm the exact opposite of you. As it gets closer to Christmas, I get no motivation to do my schoolwork and all I want to do is stitch because I've been ignoring it all semester. :-P

If you don't get them done in time take a photo of sample pic and copy some off..then place the copies in cards and let people know you are hand making hteir gifts and they will get them as they are finished. That way they get the gift fuzzies and you get the time to do them. :)

Are you doing them all as gifts? You subconsciously might see them as work instead of fun then if you are. Try doing something fun and small like an ornament that you can finish and see if that helps! Or do something for YOU.
